Why does the Sun appear reddish early in the morning?

The sun appears red in the morning due to the following reasons:

The reddish appearance of the sun is early in the morning or at sunrise. It is due to the scattering of light by the molecules of air and other fine particles present in the atmosphere.  Early in the morning, just during the sunrise, the sun remains below the horizon, hence light from the sun passes through thicker layers of air and larger distances in the earth's atmosphere before reaching our eyes. Most of the blue light rays and other shorter wavelength rays are scattered away by the particles in the atmosphere. Therefore, only red light, being of a higher wavelength reaches us which gives the reddish appearance of the sun at sunrise or sunset.
