Read the following paragraph carefully.India is the World's 5th largest wind power producer of electricity. The largest wind-farm facilities are installed in Tamil Nadu. A small village of Tamil Nadu called Muppandal is one of the most important sites of wind-farms in the State. The wind generators of the wind farms use wind blowing from the Arabian sea to produce electricity. The suitability of Muppandal as a site for wind-farms stems from its geographical location as it has access to the seasonal monsoon winds. The electrical generators used on wind turbines produce an AC output of 240 V with a frequency of 50 Hz.On the basis of your understanding of the above paragraph, and the related concepts which you have studied, answer the following questions:
    1. State the principle on which an electric generator works.
    2. What is meant by saying that the output frequency of a wind generator is 50 Hz?
    3. Why do you think Muppandal is at an advantageous position for this project?
    4. Based on the data represented in the graph given here, which of the two cities A or B would be an ideal location for establishing a wind-farm and why?
    "

    (a)  An electric generator works on the principle of 'Electromagnetic Induction'. It is the phenomenon of producing current in a coil by changing the field associated with it.

    (b) The output frequency of a wind generator is 50 Hz, which means in 1 second the output (AC) completes 50 cycles, as the polarity of the output alternating current changes every 1/100 seconds

    (c) We think that Muppandal is at an advantageous position or geographical location for this project as it has access to the seasonal monsoon winds.

    (d)  Based on the data represented in the graph given here, City A would be an ideal location for establishing a wind-farm.

The reason behind this is, it is more suitable for a wind-farm as wind is at consistent high-speed in that city throughout the year.
