Why do we feel more heat when we keep one hand above the candle flame than keeping on the side of candle flame?
Heated air and smoke have low density. So they move upward when the candle is burning. This process is known as convection.
Therefore, the hand above the flame feels hot. On the sides, however, there is no convection and air does not feel as hot as at the top.
