Why are apical meristematic tissues present at the tip of the shoot and root?

The apical meristem is also known as the “growing tip”, found in the buds and growing tips of roots in plants.

Its main function is to create cells and growth to drive the plant into the light and air, where it can photosynthesize and exchange built-up gases and trigger the growth of new cells in young seedlings at the tips of roots and shoots and forming buds.

That’s why it is present on the tip of the shoot and root.
