The difference between Heterotrophs and Saprotrophs are as follow:
Heterotrophs | Saprotrophs |
1. Heterotrophs are those organisms that depend on plants or other organisms for their food/nutrition. | 1. Saprotrophs are those organisms that depend on dead and decaying organic matter for their food/nutrition. |
2. The digestion of heterotrophs is intracellular. | 2. The digestion of saprotrophs is extracellular. |
3. Heterotrophs are mostly eukaryotic. | 3. Saprotrophs can be both eukaryotic and prokaryotic. |
4. Examples- Mammals (Humans, Cows, Goats, Horses), Birds (Parrot, Vulture, Sparrow), etc. | 4. Examples- Bacteria, Fungi (mushrooms, yeast, moulds). |
