What is Beriberi?

The term beriberi is taken from the Sinhalese word which means 'extreme weakness'. 

Beriberi is a nutritional disease caused by the deficiency of vitamin B-1 (thiamin). It is usually caused by poor diet or alcoholism.

Symptoms of beriberi contain- shortness of breath, swollen feet or legs, weakness, and pain in the limbs are some symptoms of beriberi.
