Pranav's mother baked a cake. She divided it into a number of equal pieces and gave 4 of these pieces to him. If Pranav got $\frac{1}{3}$ of the cake, how many pieces did his mother divide the cake into?
Given :
Pranav got $\frac{1}{3}$ of the cake.
Number of pieces Pranav got $=4$
To do :
We have to find the number of pieces the cake divided into.
Solution:
Let the number of pieces be 'x'
Out of x pieces, Pranav got 4 pieces which is equal to $\frac{1}{3}$ of the cake.
$\frac{1}{3} x = 4$
$x = 4\times 3$
$x = 12$
Therefore, the number of pieces is 12
