A birthday cake was cut into 20 equal pieces. 16 pieces were served at the party. What fraction of cake was not served at the party?

Given :

A cake was cut into 20 equal pieces.

The number of pieces served in the party $= 16$.

To find :

We have to find the fraction of the cake which was not served at the party.

Solution :

Number of pieces not served in the party $= 20-16 = 4$

The fraction of cake not served in the party $= \frac{Number of pieces not served}{Total number of pieces}$

                                                                         $=\frac {4}{20}$

                                                                         $= \frac{1}{5}$.

Therefore, the fraction cake not served at the party is $\frac{1}{5}$.
