Do cells have colour?

The cells in our body are generally colourless because the cell is made up of molecules like proteins and fats, which do not absorb any special wavelengths of visible light.

However, several types of cells do have colour, and they are-

1. The red blood cells - RBC’s get their colour from the molecules called heme (haemoglobin).

2. The cells in the iris of the eye - Iris cells get their colour from the molecule called melanin.

3. The cells in the skin - Skin cells also get their colour from the molecule called melanin. The cells that contain melanin are called melanocytes.
