Differentiate between Nerve cells and Neurons.
Although nerve and neuron sound similar, they are two different components of the body. They are closely related to each other. Nerves are projections of neurons.
Given above is the image of a Neuron
Neuron, also known as the nerve cell, is an individual specialized cell, primarily involved in transmitting information through electrical and chemical signals.
Neurons are found in the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nerves. There are two types of neurons – sensory neurons and motor neurons.
Neurons are the structural and functional units of the nervous system.
A group of neurons forms a nerve.
The nerve is an enclosed, cable-like bundle of axons and nerve fibers found in the peripheral nervous system.
There are three types of nerves-
- Afferent nerves,
- Efferent nerves,
- Mixed Nerves.
