Determine if the following are in proportion.4 , 6 , 8 , 12

Given :

The given numbers are 4 , 6 , 8 , 12.

To find :

We have to find whether 4,6,8,12 are in proportion.

Solution :

If a, b, c, d are in proportion then,

$\frac{a}{b} = \frac{c}{d}$

Therefore,

To check whether 4,6,8,12 are in proportion, we have to divide 6 by 4 and 12 by 8

and see if the ratios are equal.

$\frac{4}{6} = \frac{2\times2}{2\times3} = \frac{2}{3}$

$\frac{8}{12} = \frac{2\times4}{3\times4} = \frac{2}{3}$

Therefore, 4,6,8,12 are in proportion.
