How to clean a refrigerator without using harsh chemicals and costly cleaners?

Cleaning a refrigerator is always a time-taking messy procedure where using chemicals and cleaners which show their drastic effect on our skin and breathing, making our day miserable. There are some natural products with which we can easily clean the refrigerator. First, we need to switch off the supply and clear the fridge by taking out all the food items. Take out the removable trays, shelves, drawers and holders for keeping it open and empty.

Soap and Lather

We can use mild soap lather to clean those trays, shelves, holders, and containers. But for that use lukewarm water and mild dishwashing soap/powder/liquid and then soak all of them before rinsing and cleaning. Always keep a damp and a dry cloth handy for you.

Baking Soda

Use baking soda to remove stubborn stains. Mix baking soda with lukewarm water to make a thick paste and apply it on the stains. Leave for an hour and then rub gently.

Vinegar

White vinegar is good for using on any stainless steel elements to clean. You can make some liquid using two cups of water, a cup of vinegar, two teaspoons of dish soap and a bit of scented oil. Use it to clean the fridge.

Put the damp cloth (wet by the above liquid) on stains for some time to remove them easily. If raw meat and poultry stains are to be removed, wash with lukewarm water and vinegar and let it be for 5 minutes before wiping off.

Lemon

Lemon can be rubbed against stains for cleaning which also removes the odor of the stain. Gentle surface wipes that contain natural citrus oils can also be used for cleaning. Dip the cotton swabs in the cleaning liquid to clean crevices. Use toothpicks instead of harsh instruments to help you reach the corners of fridge doors and crevices.

Whichever is the product, it is always better to test on a small area so as to confirm that there are no adverse effects. Disinfectants and bleach should never be used in refrigerators. These could contaminate the food. It is always better to use natural and mild products.

Once you are done with the cleaning, arrange the dry racks and shelves, leave the fridge open for 30 minutes which lets the fridge have some fresh air that neutralizes even the mild scents of cleaners.

After cleaning the fridge, keep a plastic box of baking soda on the bottom rack so as to absorb strong odors in the fridge. A small piece of coal would also be helpful in deodorizing the fridge. Any Mouldy foods or leaked pouches should be cleaned immediately for proper maintenance of the fridge.
