Why do fathers need Paternity Leave?
This question actually leaves me in astonishment. So, is it a belief or truth that a dad has nothing to do when a child is born in the family? I think this is the point where you need to change your mind.
A newborn needs the care and love of the father as well as the mother. It’s not only about the food and nursing that mother offers, but the care and affection that father shows are equally important for a newborn, to grow with secured warmth.
Maternity leave
Maternity leave is granted keeping in view of the mother’s condition and the rest she requires after the labor pains and the great process of birth giving. Nursing the newborn is also very crucial at that point in time. This is very important both for the mother and the baby. Hence it has been made mandatory for all the companies and institutions to grant a maternity leave of at least six months providing half of the salary, for the mother-to-be.
Paternity leave
Paternity leave is the one granted to a father during the same period. The tenure of this leave as per All India and Central services rule is for 15 days only. While some of the companies are considering the importance of child care which is the joint responsibility of both the parents, are allotting the paternity leave for 3 to 6 months. This leave has to be taken by every new father because it indirectly promotes the child’s secure growth.
Father’s Responsibilities
When a mother delivers a child, there occur drastic changes in her body, where she needs utmost care. As well, the baby who just out needs a round-the-clock caretaker, where the mother might not be able to do. It is the father who needs to take care of the baby as and when needed.
Most importantly, it is the warmth of a fatherly touch that makes the baby feel secure and sow the great seeds of affection. The regular shots, medicines, and needs of the baby should be taken care of. As well, the diet and medicines of the mother should also be observed. There are chances that the baby or the mother or maybe both can fall sick suddenly during this time. Hence the role of a husband cum father is very crucial at such point in time.
