Why the wheat crop requires less water?

Wheat is a Rabi crop that is planted between October and March (in the winter season).

It requires less water as it is planted in the winter season, so low transpiration is performed by the leaves and low evaporation occurs in soil water. Excessive water can lead to root infection in wheat and other rabi crops.
