Why are the coils of electric irons and electric toasters made of an alloy rather than pure metal?

The coils of electric irons and electric toasters are made of alloys rather than pure metal because:-

1. the resistivity of an alloy is much higher than the pure metals.

2. an alloy doesn't undergo oxidation or burn easily even at high temperatures (when it is red hot).
