The vaccine for smallpox was introduced by Edward Jenner in 1796.
It was the first successfully developed vaccine.
French scientist Louis Pasteur was the first to work on the culture of bacteria.
He developed a culture medium containing ashes, 'yeast soup', sugar and ammonium salts in 1860.
