What is exponent?

The exponential form of a number:

The exponential form of a number is a way of representing repeated multiplications of the same number by writing the number as a base with the number of repeats written as a superscript to its upper right.

The superscript number is called an exponent, index, power or order.

e.g. $10 \times 10 \times 10 \times 10 = 10^4$.

Here, 10,000 is expressed in exponential form as $10^4$ where the base is 10 and exponent or power is 4.
