Define exponent

Exponent:

An exponent refers to the number of times a number is multiplied by itself.

For example, 3 to the power 2 (written as $3^2$) means: $3 \times 3 = 9$.

The exponent corresponds to the number of times the base is used as a factor.

Here, the whole $3^2$ is called power, 3 is the base and 2 is the exponent.
