What constitutes the link between one generation and the next?
Gametes constitute the link between one generation and the next generation.
[Extra information for reference:
Gametes are the reproductive cells of an organism which are also referred to as sex cells.
The ova or egg cells are the female gametes whereas the male gametes are called sperm. Gametes are haploid and each cell carries one copy of each chromosome.
Gametes are involved in sexual reproduction that involves the fusion of male and female gametes to form a zygote, i.e. it involves the process of fertilization. The offspring receives genetic information from both the parents.
Thus it transfers the genetic information from one generation to another.]
