$= 342 \times (12 + 8)$

$= 342 \times 20 $

$= 6840$.

The value of  $342 \times 12 +342 \times 8$ is 6480.


b. $6842\times 999 + 6842$

$= 6842 \times 999 + 6842 \times 1$

$= 6842 \times (999+1)$

$=6842 \times 1000 $

$= 6842000$.
