We have to simplify the following expressions.
\( \begin{array}{ll}\text { (a) } 3 y+2 y+7 & \text { (b) } 15+y-y \ \text { (c) } 7 a-2 a-3 & \text { (d) } 12+3 x-x\end{array} \)
Solution:
(a) $3y+2y+7=(3+2)y+7$
$=5y+7$.
(b) $15+y-y=15$
(c) $7a-2a-3=(7-2)a-3$
$=5a-3$
(d) 12+3x-x=12+(3-1)x$
$=12+2x$
