Sameera purchased $3 \frac{1}{2}$ k g apples and $4 \frac{3}{4}$ k g oranges. What is the total weight of fruits purchased by her?

Given:
Quantity of apple purchased by Sameera =  $3 \frac{1}{2}$ k g
Quantity of orange purchased by Sameera =   $4 \frac{3}{4}$ k g

To find: Total weight of fruits purchased by her

Solution:

Total quantity of fruits = Quantity if apple + Quantity of oranges

= $3 \frac{1}{2}$ k g +$4 \frac{3}{4}$ k g

= $\frac{7}{2} + \frac{19}{4}$
LCM of 4 and 2 is 4

=$\frac{7\times2+19}{4}$
=$\frac{14+19}{2}$

=$\frac{33}{2}$

= 16.5kgs

So the total quantity of fruit that Sameera bought was 16.5kgs
