In each of the following, check whether the given two ratios form a proportion or not.a) $ 12: 15 $ and $ 20: 25 $
b) $ 10: 12 $ and $ 15: 18 $
Given :
a) \( 12: 15 \) and \( 20: 25 \)
b) \( 10: 12 \) and \( 15: 18 \)
To find :
We have to check whether the given two ratios form a proportion or not.
Solution :
We know that,
If $a,b,c,d$ are in proportion then,
$\frac{a}{b} = \frac{c}{d}$
This implies,
$ad = bc$
a) $12:15$ and $20:25$
$12\times25 =300$
$15\times20 = 300$
Therefore, $12:15$ and $20:25$ are in proportion.
b) $10:12$ and $15:18$
$10\times18 = 180$
$12\times15 =180$
Therefore, $10:12$ and $12:15$ are in proportion.
