How does the metallic character of elements change along a period of the periodic table from the left to the right and why?


Metallic character decreases from left to right along a period of the periodic table because on moving from left to right, the size of the atoms decreases, and nuclear charge increases. Hence, the tendency to release electrons decreases. So the electropositive character decreases.
