Algae (singular alga) is an aquatic photosynthetic organism of the kingdom Protista. Algae were classified into major groups based on color such as red, brown, and green.

Examples of algae are spirogyra, Chlorococcum sp, chlorella, Haematococcus Pluvialis, etc.

Algae can prepare its food because it has chlorophyll that makes it look green and helps in the process of photosynthesis and forms organic food molecules from carbon dioxide and water in the presence of sunlight.

Algae are present across the world and can be categorized ecologically by their habitats such as freshwater algae, marine algae, etc.
