Explain the multiplication of decimal numbers.

Multiplication of Decimals:

1. Multiply normally, ignoring the decimal points.

2 Put the decimal point in the answer. It will have as many decimal places as the two original numbers combined.

For example,

$12.1 \times 4.2$

step 1. $121 \times 42 = 5062$

Number of decimals in both the numbers combined $= (1+1) = 2$

step 2. $12.1 \times 4.2 = 50.62$.
