At an individual level, how can you help to reduce air pollution?

The following things can be done to reduce air pollution:
  • Use public transport as far as possible.
  • Generate awareness among people to reduce air pollution.
  • Plant more and more trees because trees help to keep the environment clean and reduce air 1 pollution.
  • Not use vehicles for short distances.

[Extra information: Polluted air is contaminated with the substances like smoke, dust and other harmful substances called pollutants. These pollutants can come from natural sources or from human activities. The burning of fossil fuels is the major cause of air pollution. The burning of fossil fuels affects the environment because they release carbon dioxide and other harmful gases such as Sulphur dioxide, nitrogen oxides and carbon monoxide. These gases trap heat in the earth’s atmosphere and cause global warming which contributes to global climate change. Automobiles that burn diesel and petrol, produce SPM which remains suspended in air and reduce visibility. When inhaled, they cause diseases. Industrial activities like manufacturing of steel and mining give out SPM which also pollutes the atmosphere.]
