A boy of mass $50\ kg$ climbs up a vertical height of $100\ m$. Calculate the amount of potential energy he gains.

As given, mass of the boy $m=50\ kg.$

Vertical height climbed $h=100\ m$

Therefore, potential energy $W=mgh$

$=50\  kg.\times9.8\ ms^{-2}\times100\ m$

$=4900\ Joule$

Therefore, the boy gained $4900\ Joule$ as potential energy.
