As given, mass of the boy $m=50\ kg.$
Vertical height climbed $h=100\ m$
Therefore, potential energy $W=mgh$
$=50\ kg.\times9.8\ ms^{-2}\times100\ m$
$=4900\ Joule$
Therefore, the boy gained $4900\ Joule$ as potential energy.
