A boy weighing $50\ kg$ climbs up a vertical height of $100\ m$. Calculate the amount of work done by him. How much potential energy does he gain?$(g=9.8\ m/s^2)$.

Mass of the boy $m=50\ kg$

Vertical height $h=100\ m$

Gravitational acceleration $g=9.8\ m/s^2$

Therefore, potential energy $P=mgh$

$=50\times100\times9.8$

$=4.9\times10^3\ J$

Therefore, the boy gained $4.9\itmes 10^3\ J$ potential energy.
