A body starting from rest travels with uniform acceleration. If it travels $100\ m$ in $5\ s$, what is the value of acceleration ?
Initial velocity $u=0$
displacement $s=100\ m$
Time $t=5\ sec.$
Let $a$ be the acceleration of the moving body.
Then, on using the equation of motion $s=ut+\frac{1}{2}at^2$
$100=0+\frac{1}{2}\times a\times5^2$
Or $100=\frac{25}{2}a$
Or $25a=200$
Or $a=\frac{200}{25}$
Or $a=8\ m/s^2$
Therefore, acceleration is $8\ m/s^2$.
