It returns an iterator.

Examples of HTML DOM Nodelist 'entries()' Method

The following examples illustrates the implementation of entries() method.

Get the entries of child nodes

In the following example we have created several elements and then appended them to one node that is parent node and then with entries() method, iterator is returned iterating through every child nodes.

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html lang="en">
<head>
    <title>HTML DOM Nodelist entries() Method</title>
</head>
<body>
    <button onclick="fun()">Click me</button>
    <p id="entry"></p>
    <script>
        function fun() {
            let x = document.getElementById("entry");
            let nodes = document.createElement("section");
            let nodeOne = document.createElement("h1");
            let nodeTwo = document.createElement("p");
            let nodeThree = document.createElement("h2");
            nodes.appendChild(nodeOne);
            nodes.appendChild(nodeTwo);
            nodes.appendChild(nodeThree);
            for (let i of nodes.childNodes.entries()) {
                x.innerHTML += i + "<br>";
            }
        }
    </script>
</body>
</html>

Get the Name of child nodes

The following example returns the nodenames of child nodes.

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html lang="en">
<head>
    <title>HTML DOM Nodelist entries() Method</title>
</head>
<body>
    <button onclick="fun()">Click me</button>
    <p id="entry"></p>
    <script>
        function fun() {
            let x = document.getElementById("entry");
            let nodes = document.createElement("section");
            let nodeOne = document.createElement("h1");
            let nodeTwo = document.createElement("p");
            let nodeThree = document.createElement("h2");
            nodes.appendChild(nodeOne);
            nodes.appendChild(nodeTwo);
            nodes.appendChild(nodeThree);
            for (let i of nodes.childNodes.entries()) {
                x += i[0] + " " + i[1].nodeName + "<br>"
            }
            document.getElementById("entry").innerHTML = x
        }
