Find the ratio of the following:
(a) 30 minutes to 1.5 hours
(b) 40 cm to 1.5 m
(c) 55 paise to Rs. 1
(d) 500 ml to 2 litres.

To do:

We have to find the ratios of :

 (a) $30\ minutes$ to $1.5\ hours$

(b) $40\ cm$ to $1.5\ m$

(c) $55\ paise$ to $ Rs.\ 1 $

(d) $500\ ml$ to $2\ litres$.

Solution:

(a) We know that,

$1\ hour = 60\ minutes$

This implies,

$30\ minutes = \frac{30}{60}$

$= 0.5\ hours$

The ratio of $30\ minutes$ to $1.5\ hours$

$=\frac{0.5}{1.5}$

$=\frac{5}{15}$

$= \frac{1}{3}$

$=1:3$

The ratio of $30\ minutes$ to $1.5\ hours$ is $1:3$.

(b) We know that,

$1\ m = 100\ cm$

This implies,

$1.5\ m =1.5\times100\ cm$

$=150\ cm$

The ratio of $40\ cm$ to $1.5\ m$

$=\frac{40\ cm}{150\ cm}$

$= \frac{4}{15}$

$=4:15$

 The ratio of $40\ cm$ to $1.5\ m$ is $4:15$.

(c)  We know that,

$ 1\ Rs. = 100\ paise$

The ratio of $55\ paise$ to $ Rs.\ 1 $

$=\frac{55\ paise}{100\ paise}$

$=\frac{55}{100}$

$= \frac{11}{20}$

$=11:20$

 The ratio of $55\ paise$ to $ Rs.\ 1 $ is $11:20$.

(d)  We know that,

$1\ litre = 1000\ ml$

$2\ litres = 2\times1000\ ml$

$2\ litres = 2000\ ml$

The ratio of $500\ ml$ to $2\ litres$ is,

$=\frac{500\ ml}{2000\ ml}$

$= \frac{1}{4}$

$=1:4$

 The ratio of $500\ ml$ to $2\ litres$ is $1:4$.
