News 1 - International Women's Day observed
The International Women's Day (IWD) was celebrated across the globe on 8th March. The theme for this year’s Women’s Day is “Women in the Changing World of Work: Planet 50-50 by 2030”. The theme is #BeBoldForChange.
It is also known as the United Nations (UN) Day for Women’s Rights and International Peace. The day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.
News 2 - World Kidney Day observed worldwide
The World Kidney Day (WKD) was observed worldwide on 9th March 2016. The theme of the World Kidney Day 2017 is “Kidney Disease & Obesity, Healthy Lifestyle for Healthy Kidneys.”
The World Kidney Day (WKD) is observed every year on the second Thursday in March. This day is a mutual initiative of International Society of Nephrology (ISN) and the International Federation of Kidney Foundations (IFKF). The aim of the day is to raise awareness about the role played by kidneys in maintaining overall health.
News 3 - World Consumer Rights Day
The World Consumer Rights Day (WCRD) is observed every year on 15th March for celebration and solidarity within the international consumer movement.
The WCRD is an opportunity to promote the basic rights of all consumers, for demanding that those rights are respected and protected, and for protesting the market abuses and social injustices which undermine them. The theme for this year is 'Building a Digital World Consumers Can Trust’.
News 4 - Commonwealth Day celebrated in the Westminster Abbey
The Commonwealth Day is the annual celebration of the Commonwealth of Nations held on the second Monday in March. The theme for 2017 is "A peace-building Commonwealth".
It is marked by a multi-faith service in Westminster Abbey, normally attended by Queen Elizabeth II as Head of the Commonwealth. The Commonwealth is one of the world’s oldest political associations of states. Currently there are 52 member nations in the group.
News 5 - World Poetry Day
The World Poetry Day is held on March 21 each year. It is an initiative of the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to appreciate and support poets and poetry around the world.
UNESCO recognizes the unique ability of poetry to capture the creative spirit of the human mind. The day celebrates one of humanity’s most treasured forms of cultural and linguistic expression and identity.
News 6 - International Day of Forests observed
The United Nations’ (UN) International Day of Forests is observed annually on 21st March to promote the importance of forests and trees in our lives. The day addresses issues such as deforestation. International Day of Forests was observed for the first time on March 21, 2013.
The theme of this year is 'Forests and Energy'. The theme highlights the importance of wood energy in improving people's lives, powering sustainable development and mitigating climate change.
News 7 - International day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination 2017 observed globally
The United Nations’ (UN) International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination is observed every year on March 21. 2017 Theme: Racial profiling and incitement to hatred, including in the context of migration.
It creates awareness among people of racial discrimination’s negative consequences. It also encourages people to remember their obligation and determination to combat racial discrimination.
News 8 - World Water Day observed
The World Water Day is celebrated on March 22 every year. The day highlights the importance of freshwater and promotes sustainable management of freshwater resources.
The theme of 2017 World Water Day is "Why Wastewater". It aims to highlight on wastewater and ways to reduce and reuse as over 80% of all the wastewater from our homes, cities, industry and agriculture flows back to nature polluting the environment and losing valuable nutrients and other recoverable materials.
News 9 - World Meteorological Day 2017 observed globally
The United Nations' (UN) World Meteorological Day is observed annually on March 23 to commemorate the establishment of World Meteorological Organization on this day in 1950. The theme for year 2017 is "Understanding Clouds".
The theme highlights the enormous importance of clouds for weather climate and water. Clouds are central to weather observations and forecasts. The World Meteorological Day marks the launch of a new edition of the International Cloud Atlas.
News 10 - World Sparrow Day observed
The World Sparrow Day was observed around the globe on 20th March. The day aims to raise awareness of the house sparrow and then other common birds to urban environments, and of threats to their populations.
It is an international initiative by the Nature Forever Society of India in collaboration with the Eco-Sys Action Foundation (France) and numerous other national and international organizations across the world.
News 11 - World Tuberculosis Day
The World Tuberculosis Day is observed annually on March 24. The theme for World Tuberculosis Day 2017 is 'Unite to End TB: Leave no one behind'. 2017 is the second year of a two-year "Unite to End TB" campaign for World TB Day.
The day aims to raise public awareness of tuberculosis and the efforts made to prevent and treat this disease. It is one of eight official global public health campaigns marked by the World Health Organization (WHO).
News 12 - World Theatre Day
The World Theatre Day is celebrated annually on the 27th of March. The Day was created in 1961 by the International Theatre Institute (ITI). This day is a celebration for those who can see the value and importance of the art form “theatre”.
The first World Theatre Day Message was written by Jean Cocteau in 1962. ITI is an International Non-Governmental Organization founded in 1948 by UNESCO and the International Theatre Community.
News 13 - 'Earth Hour' observed on 25th March
Earth Hour is a worldwide movement observed annually towards the end of March. It is organized by the World-Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). This year it was observed on 25th March 2017 marked the 10th anniversary of Earth Hour.
The event is held to encourage individuals, communities, households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights for one hour, from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. as a symbol for their commitment to the planet.
