An alarm bell is kept inside a vessel as shown in the figure. A person standing close to it can distinctly hear the sound of the alarm. Now, if the air inside the vessel is removed completely, how will the loudness of the alarm get affected for the same person?

As long as the air was present in the vessel the necessary medium was present to help the propagation of sound. But when the air is removed from the vessel there is a vacuum. Sound cannot propagate in a vacuum; Therefore the person standing near the vessel will not hear the sound of the bell.
