Eligibility criteria for TGT

  • You need to be a graduate of any stream

  • The maximum age for TGT is 35 years

How to become a TGT?

If you want to become a TGT, you will have to opt for either government or private school as the selection criteria are different.

TGT Selection Process for Government Schools

The selection process for TGT in government schools is very tough. You have to take two written exams followed by an interview. If you pass the written exams, then in the interview, you will be evaluated for teaching, collaboration, communication, etc. After the interview, a list of selected candidates is released and they are ranked on the basis of their performance in the exams and interview. The best performers are allowed to teach in schools within a state or a district.

TGT Selection Process for Private Schools

If you want to teach in a private school, the selection process depends upon the policies of that institute. The selection process usually depends on your qualifications, teaching skills, and experience. You may also have to go for a written exam. Private schools also conduct a background check and may ask you to provide references and demonstrate your teaching skills.

You can apply for the exam online on the official website of the authorities that conduct the exam. You have to make a study plan to be successful in the exam. Here is the plan which you can follow −

Salary of TGTs

The salary of TGTs depends upon whether they are teaching in a government or private institute.

Salary of TGTs in Government Schools

If you are teaching in a government school, you will get your salary on the basis of 7th Pay Commission guidelines. The range of salary is between INR 9,000 and INR 34,800. You will also get the following allowances −

  • Dearness Allowance

  • House Rent Allowance

  • Transport Allowance

You will also get many other allowances.

If you are teaching in a private school as a TGT, you will get a salary on the basis of your performance, experience, qualifications, reputation, and financial status of the school. Your school may also provide housing allowance, health insurance, performance bonuses, etc. After gaining experience, you can apply for senior positions like coordinator, vice principal, principal, registrar, head of department, etc.
