What is the full form of DCS?

Introduction to DCS

Digital Cross-connect system or DCS is an equipment of circuit switch network which is used in telecommunication networks. Its main purpose is to rearrange and establish a connection between higher level TDM signals. It allows the lower level TDM bit streams, and rearrange the DS0 bit streams to be interconnected to the DS1 streams.

Digital Cross Connect systems-based devices can groom telecommunications traffic, and switch traffic from a circuit to another one, supporting automated provisions, etc. It can also provide the essential flexibility which can be obtained by spending a lot of money.

Applications of DCS

The functions of a DCS-run device can only be understood if one understands its applications. Here are some of the ways you can use DCS-driven device −

FLASHWAVE Digital Cross-Connect Solutions

The perfect example of a DCS-run device is a FLASHWAVE DCS system which can provide 60 M13 DS3 ports, having visibility to DS1s in the existing system. Each shelf has 15 DS3 transmux ports and DS1 test access. All the shelves are interlinked via OC-48 fibre.

Every DS3 signal is connected electrically to FLASHWAVE. The DS3 interface de-multiplexes the DS3 and packages them in VT1.5s. The VT1.5 switch fabric will transfer VT1.5 signals to a DS3 transmux port. The VT1 can get connected to the accurate transmux port once it is inside. It can then be transported from the DCS via the BNC connector. Using this kind of configuration a DS1 system can be transported into a DS3.

When the network requirement grows and crosses 90 M13 DS3 ports, it is time to add a FLASHWAVE 4500 node so that it can offer an interconnection point between FLASHWAVE shelves of 4300. These are configured with OC-48 optics (two sets). This can provide a connection between M13 DS3 ports.

Features of DCS

Any DCS device is not a DCS device unless it has some of the prominent features. Those are as follows −

  • Any Digital Cross-connect system-run device can have an optical uplink interface.

  • The DCS device can offer the users programmable non-blocking cross-connections. It is available in sixty-four thousand channels.

  • It has a combination of 64k time-slots.

  • The user can get RJ45 or 8 X E1 interfaces with SMB/BNC according to their choice.

  • It can have a graphical user manager. For example, the GUI software in set.

  • The DCS device is easily manageable by using the serial port on the back-panel or via GUI manager.

Advantages of DCS

Being one of the most leading equipment that can switch networks, the DCS or Digital Cross-connect system-run device can help the telecommunications sector in various ways. By using this device, the cloud on-ramps, IT service providers and various other networks, can get benefitted. Here are some of the advantages of Digital Cross-connect System devices that you must know:

Flexibility

Using a Digital Cross-connect system-run device can provide flexibility and agility to the businesses. It can be of help when it comes to offer a new connection to service providers and partners.

Reduce Distance

Any DCS-driven device can provide a closeness. It can eventually decrease the physical distance and network hops.

Easy to Install And Apply

Installing a DCS-run device is easy and does not take much time. It offers direct access to various networks, public clouds and enterprise-grade services within a few minutes.

Expanding or Adding Is Easy

If you want to add connections, you can do it within no time. You only need to press the ‘add connections’ button and that will be enough. A new connection will be added.

Conclusion

DCS or Digital Cross-connect system is a kind of circuit which is used for switching various networks. Since it can be rearranged to transfer DS0 bit streams to DS1 bit streams, its application has several benefits. With multiple features and various noticeable advantages, the use of any DCS device is good and profitable.

FAQs

Q1. Discuss the functions of Digital cross-connect systems.

Ans: A digital cross-connect system is a device most helpful in the telecommunication sector. Since it is a circuit-switch device, it can route data, most importantly, voice among T1 or E1 lines. It is a great tool to use in telecommunication networks, existing in data carriers.

Q2. Does accessing other networks get easier with a DCS device?

Ans: Any DCS device is easy to install. Since it does not take much time, getting access to other networks, or other enterprise- grade services is easier than before.

Q3. Name the types of Digital Cross Connection System?

Ans: You can find two types of digital cross connection systems. One is Optical transmuxing and the other one is Electrical transmuxing.
