We discussed the many movements our bodies are capable of. Healthy bones, muscles, joints and cartilages are needed by the body for all these movements. Some of us suffer from conditions that could make these movements not so easy. In a whole class activity, try to find ways that one would manage everyday activities, if any one of our body movements was not possible.
In Activity 1, for instance, you tied a scale on your arm and disabled the elbow movement. Think of other ways of restricting normal body movements and find ways that everyday activities could then be managed.

Our elbow is an example of the synovial hinge joint between the humerus in the upper arm and the radius and ulna in the forearm that allows the forearm and hand to be moved in only one direction (forward direction), away from the body.

These joints are formed when two or more bones meet and move along an axis to bend.

Therefore, we can't move our elbow backwards.

A joint is a connection made between bones that holds them together and allows movement across two or more bones, linking the skeletal system to function as a single unit.

If a joint is obstructed for any reason, its movement is restricted. When the scale tied to the arm obstructs the movement of the elbow joint, we will not be able to bend our elbow.
