What is the difference between 'distance traveled' by a body and its 'displacement'? Explain with the help of a diagram.

Difference between the distance and displacement:

DistanceDisplacement
The total length of the path traveled by an object or body is called the distance.Displacement is the shortest length of the path. Or the Shortest length of the change in position of the object.
Distance only exhibits the magnitude of the length of the path.Displacement tells the magnitude of the shortest length of the path and the direction of both.
Distance is a scalar quantity.

Displacement is a vector quantity.

In the above figure, a body moves from A to B and then B to C.

Here, Distance $=AB+BC$

While the displacement $=AC$
