In a cricket match, a batsman hits a boundary 6 times out of 30 balls he plays. Find the probability that on a ball played he does not hit a boundary.

Given:

In a cricket match, a batsman hits a boundary 6 times out of 30 balls he plays.

To do:

We have to find the probability that on a ball played he does not hit a boundary.

Solution:

Total number of outcomes $=30$

Number of times he does not hit a boundary $=30-6$

$=24$

We know that,

Probability of an event=$ \frac{Number \ of \ favourable \ outcomes}{Total \ number \ of \ outcomes}$

Therefore,

Probability that he does not hit a boundary $=\frac{24}{30}$

$=0.8$

This implies,

The probability that on a ball played he does not hit a boundary is $0.8$.
