An ore on treatment with dilute hydrochloric acid produces brisk effervescence. Name the type of ore with one example. What steps will be required to obtain metal from the enriched ore? Also, write the chemical equations for the reactions involved in the process.
Carbonate ore (Example: zinc carbonate)
Steps required to obtain metal from the ore:
- Calcination: Carbonate ore is heated in limited supply of air, Zinc oxide is obtained. $ZnCO_{3}(s)\overset{heat}{\rightarrow}ZnO(s)+CO_{2}(g)$
- Reduction with carbon: Zinc oxide is reduced with carbon to give the metal Zinc. $ZnO(s)+C(s)\rightarrow Zn(s)+CO(g)$
