1 - Serena Williams tops the Forbes list of best-paid female athletes

Serena Williams

Serena Williams was ranked first in the Forbes’ list of the highest-paid female athletes for fourth year in a row. The 23-time grand slam singles champion earned $29.2 million for the 12 months to June 1.

Japanese tennis player Naomi Osaka was second in the list with $24.3 million. Angelique Kerber was third while Simona Halep was placed fourth. The top eleven list consisted of all being tennis players. The highest-placed athlete from another sport was United States footballer Alex Morgan in 12th. Indian badminton star PV Sindhu was 13th in the list with $5.5 million.

2 - Manipur tops in Breastfeeding, Infant & Young Child Feeding Practices

According to a report released by the Health and Family Welfare Ministry, Manipur has topped the rankings in Breastfeeding and Infant and Young Child Feeding Practices in the country. Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Bihar are at the bottom positions in the report card.

The Breastfeeding report card has been developed by devising a composite score based on three indicators namely early initiation of breastfeeding, exclusive breastfeeding for six months and complimentary feeding at 6-8 months of child's age.

3 - Four of the six states with the highest forest and tree cover from Northeast

According to a report published by the Forest Survey of India, whose findings are published in the India State of Forest Report (ISFR), among the six states with the highest forest and tree cover, four are in the Northeast - Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram and Meghalaya.

Key Highlights

  • 24.49% of India’s geographical area is under forest and tree cover

  • Haryana at 6.79% has the lowest forest and tree cover

  • UT of Lakshadweep is on top with 97% of its geographical area under forest and tree cover

  • In terms of geographical area, the highest tree and forest cover is in Madhya Pradesh, with 85,487 sq km

4 - NITI Aayog released Report on the Composite Water Management Index

NITI Aayog launched the second Round of Composite Water Management Index (CWMI 2.0). The index is a tool to instill the sense of cooperative and competitive federalism among the states. It helps measure different dimensions of water management and use across the lifecycle of water.

Gujarat was ranked first followed byAndhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Goa, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. In North Eastern and Himalayan States, Himachal Pradesh has been adjudged number 1 in 2017-18 followed by Uttarakhand, Tripura and Assam.

5 - Gujarat's Statue of Unity, Mumbai's Soho House in TIME's 100 greatest places 2019 list

Statue of Unity

India’s 'Statue of Unity' in Gujarat and 'Soho House' in Mumbai have been featured in the Time’s list of 100 greatest places in the world. The Statue of Unity, dedicated to Iron Man of India Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, is situated on the river island called Sadhu Bet in front of the Narmada Dam in Gujarat. It is the world's tallest statue at a height of 182 metres.

Mumbai's Soho House is located in an 11-storey building overlooking the Arabian Sea. It houses a library, a cinema with 34 seats and a rooftop bar and pool.
