News 1 - Gujarat CM Anandiben Patel submitted her resignation

Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel submitted her resignation letter to Governor OP Kohli. Patel announced her decision to step down from the post to make way for the younger generation in the party. She was the first woman chief minister of Gujarat.

Ms. Patel’s decision came in the backdrop of Patidar agitation by the Patel community for reservation and recent protests in the state by dalits after Una incident. The BJP Parliamentary Board has authorized Amit Shah to pick Anandiben's successor after accepting her offer to resign.

News 2 - AIADMK expels Rajya Sabha MP Sasikala Pushpa for violating party discipline

The AIADMK Chief Ms. Jayalalithaa has expelled Ms. Sasikala Pushpa, Member of Parliament in Rajya Sabha for violating party discipline. She was removed from the primary membership for bringing bad name to her party. She had allegedly got into a tussle with the longtime DMK MP Tiruchi Siva at the Delhi Airport.

Sasikala Pushpa pleaded in the Rajya Sabha that she was slapped by “a leader” and she needed protection as her life was under threat.

News 3 - Vinod Rai resigns from IDFC Bank’s board

Former Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India Vinod Rai resigned from the board to avoid any disputes arising due to his selection as the chairman of Bank Board Bureau. However, Mr. Rai continues to be the nonexecutive independent chairman of IDFC Ltd.

Since October 2015, Mr. Rai was a member of IDFC Bank board whereas the government appointed him as the chairman of Bank Board Bureau on February 28, 2016.

News 4 - Google Ventures CEO Bill Maris resigned

Bill Maris, the chief executive and founder of Alphabet Inc's venture capital arm Google Ventures (or GV), has resigned. He will be replaced by David Krane, a managing partner for the venture arm and one of the earliest corporate communications managers at Google.

GV, previously known as Google Ventures, was founded in 2009 and has invested in more than 300 companies including Uber Technologies Inc [UBER.UL] and online retailer Jet.com.

News 5 - Lionel Messi calls back his retirement announcement

Lionel Messi has reversed his decision to retire from international football. He has been named in Argentina's World Cup qualifiers to be held in the first week of September. The 29-year old had quit after Argentina's Copa America final defeat to Chile in June 2016 where he missed a penalty.

Messi said he made the U-turn for the "love of the country" and "to help from within". He has been awarded the Ballon d'Or for the world's best player five times.

News 6 - Nimesh Kampani steps down from the post of Managing Director of JM Financial Ltd

On attaining 70 years of age and as a part of succession planning at the company, Nimesh Kampani resigned from the post of Managing Director of JM Financial Ltd with effect from 30 September 2016 but will continue to be the Non-Executive Chairman of the group and a director on the board of a few group companies at JM Financial.

Nimesh Kampani’s son Vishal Kampani will take position of Managing Director of JM Financial with effect from 1 October 2016.

News 7 - Catholic Syrian Bank MD quits

Managing Director and Chief Executive of Catholic Syrian Bank, Anand Krishnamurthy, submitted his resignation because of his personal priorities. He had taken over the post a year before.

The bank is one of India's oldest private sector banks, with headquarters in the Thrissur district of Kerala. The bank reported a loss of Rs 149.72 crore in 2015-16. Gross non-performing assets was 5.62% and net NPAs was 4.40% of total loans in 2015-16.

News 8 - Sri Lankan cricketer Tillakaratne Dilshan announced retirement

Star Sri Lanka batsman Tillakaratne Dilshan announced his retirement from one-day international cricket. He will retire from T20 internationals after a match on September 9.

He has already retired from Test cricket in 2013. Dilshan made his one-day debut against Zimbabwe in 1999. He is only the fourth Sri Lanka batsman and 11th batsman overall to pass the 10000-run mark in ODIs. He pioneered the famous "Dilscoop" flick over the wicketkeeper's head.

News 9 - Wipro’s chief learning officer Abhijit Bhaduri resigned

Abhijit Bhaduri, Chief Learning Officer of Wipro resigned to start his own executive coaching company. He had led Wipro's Global 100 programme to identify and groom the net generation of leaders. Abhijit will continue with Wipro in an advisory role.

Bhaduri joined Wipro in 2009. He worked with Microsoft as HR Director. Prior to that, he worked with multinationals such as Pepsico, Colgate and advertising agency Mudra Communication. Bhaduri is also author of a book series called 'MBA' that stands for “Mediocre But Arrogant” and “Married But Available”.
