Which object would float on water?
(a) A
(b) B
(c) C
(d) D"">

Consider the following information in respect of four objects A, B, C and D:
ObjectDensity$(kg/m^3)$Volume$(m^3)$Mass$(kg)$
A
24000
B80004
C20001000
D42000

Which object would float on water?
(a) A
(b) B
(c) C
(d) D"

In the given table, Mass of object A $=4000\ kg$

Volume of object A $=2\ m^3$

Therefore, the density of A $=\frac{mass}{density}$

$=\frac{4000\ kg}{2\ m^3}$

$=2000\ kg/m^3$

Similarly, density of object C $=\frac{2000\ kg}{4\ m^3}=500\ kg/m^3$

Now we can arrange the densities of objects A, B, C, and D as below in the table:

ObjectDensity$(kg/m^3)$
A2000
B8000
C2000
D500

Here we observe that the density of the object D is less than that of the water. So Object D will float in water.

Therefore, option (d) is correct.
