$(a)$. Find out the position of the image of an object situated at A in the plane mirror (Fig. 16.21).
$(b)$. Can Paheli at B see this image?
$(c)$. Can Boojho at C see this image?
$(d)$. When Paheli moves from B to C, where does the image of A move?
"
Given:
An object situated at A in the plane mirror $(Fig.\ 16.21)$.
To do:
To find out the followings:
$(a)$. The position of the image of an object situated at A in the plane mirror $(Fig.\ 16.21)$.
$(b)$. Whether Paheli at B can see this image.
$(c)$. Whether Boojho at C can see this image.
$(d)$. Where the image of A moves when Paheli moves from B to C.
Solution:
Before answering $(a)$, $(b)$, $(c)$, and $(d)$, let us draw a ray diagram for the image of the object placed at A formed by a plane mirror:
Image formation of the object by a plane mirror:
The image formed by a plane mirror is always virtual and is at the same distance from the mirror as the distance of the object from the mirror as shown in the ray diagram below:
In the above ray diagram now it can be clearly seen that:
$(a)$. The image formed by the mirror is at A' which is at the same distance from the mirror as the distance of the object at A from the mirror.
$(b)$. The rays from A and A' can reach B easily. Therefore, at B, Paheli can see image A'.
$(c)$. As the ray from A and A' can reach C. So, at C, Boojho can see image A'.
$(d)$. When Paheli moves from B to C, the image appears moving upward.
