What do you mean by Internet of Things (IoT) Gateways?
IoT is a system of interrelated, internet-connected objects which are able to collect and transfer data over a wireless network without human intervention. The examples of IoT are driverless cars or drones.
Requirements
The requirement that an IoT operating system (OS) should satisfy are given below −
The Operating System specifically for IOT Purpose should be portable that means it can be easily ported to different hardware platforms.
It should support connectivity with different protocols like Ethernets, Wi-Fi and BLE.
Operating systems should have low memory, power should be minimal consumed and overhead due to the OS should be low.
OS scalability should be there so that we need to know only one OS for both nodes and gateways.
OS should be secured with SSL Support and Secured Boots.
It should meet all certifications for multiple applications.
Components of IoT
The important components of IoT are as follows −
Gateway
The hardware or software service provides a medium of communication from machine to cloud or from machine to machine, we know The Internet of Things (IoT) is a system of interrelated, internet-connected objects that are able to collect and transfer data over a wireless network without human intervention. So, the Gateway is the field of internet of things.
Analytics
The Analog data of devices and sensors are converted into a format that is easy to read and analyse. This Because of the IoT ecosystem it is possible and helps in managing and in improving the system.
Connectivity of devices
Sensors and devices are the main components which complete the connectivity layer. Sensors which are used here are to collect the information and to send it off to the next layer.
Cloud with the help of internet of things ecosystem
Companies are able to collect bulk data from the devices and applications. There are different tools which are used for the purpose of data collection that collect, process, handle and store the data efficiently in real time.
Gateway
In the field of internet of things, gateway is hardware device or a software service which can provide a medium of communication for machine-to-cloud or machine-to-machine.
Gateway helps many IoT devices to collect information and send it to the Cloud 9 any server based platform where the information has to be transferred for further processing in an IoT based system.
As in the example over a Wi-Fi connection a gateway can provide communication between different IoT nodes and the internet.
Here the gateway will take the information from different IoT nodes and will transfer them further towards the network of the internet than any other specified location or IP address on the internet.
