
Spotify - Publish Your Music
This tutorial is a step-by-step guide to help you through the process of publishing your own music, podcast, or show on Spotify.
Step 1: Create your content
- Create your content like music, podcasts, or shows, where you can use professional recording software (digital audio workstations like Ableton Live, Logic Pro, or GarageBand).
- Tracks should be in the format of WAV or MP3, where a bit rate of 320 kbps for MP3 music and 64-192 kbps for podcasts
- The standard sample rate for music is 44.1 kHz, whereas video content typically uses 48 kHz.
Step 2: Choose a Distribution Service
While social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook have in-built integrated tools or features that allow users to create, edit, and launch videos directly within their apps, Spotify doesn't consist of such in-built
feature in it, as it primarily focuses on audio streaming and therefore does not offer features for video content creation. So you need to use external digital distribution services to publish your music.

Step 3: Set Up Your Account
- Login if you already have an account in one of the distribution services; otherwise, you need to sign up with your chosen distribution service by providing necessary details like your name, email, and payment information.
- Upload your files, which typically involves dragging and dropping files into the platform.
Step 4: Add Metadata
After uploading your file, you need to fill out all essential details as follows −
- For music details like song title, album name, artist name, genre, and cover page art (high-quality image at least 640 x 640 pixels, ideally square).
- For podcasts, provide episode titles and descriptions, including relevant keywords for searchability, tags with podcast cover art (minimum 1400 x 1400 pixels).
Now, final review whatever you uploaded and provided for particular music or podcast to ensure accuracy, making sure no error in title and description as these can effect searchability.
Step 5: Final Submission
- Submit your content for distribution. The service will typically review your submission, which may take a few days.
- When the music is successfully submitted to Spotify, you will receive a final notification.
- After your music is live, you can claim your Spotify for Artists profile to manage your artist presence, view analytics, and promote your music.
Step 6: Promote Your Content and Monitor Performance
- You can share your music, podcasts, and shows through a Spotify link on various platforms like Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, etc.
