What is silt and loamy soil?
Silt Soil
1. Silt is created when rock is eroded, by water and ice.
2. These are light and moisture-retentive soil with high fertility compared to the other three types of soil.
3. These soils hold water longer and does not drain well.
4. These soils contain medium-sized particles, smaller than sand particles, and bigger than clay particles.
5. These soils are mainly found near the river, lake, and other water bodies.
6. As the particles are fine, they are prone to wash away with rain easily.
7. By adding organic matter, the silt particles can be bound into more stable clumps.
Loamy Soil
1. Loamy soil is a mixture of sand, silt, and clay soil.
2. These soils typically contain more nutrients, moisture, and humus, that's why it is chiefly fertility being predominant.
3. They have better drainage and infiltration of water and air than silt and clay-rich soils, which makes this soil easier in tilling.
4. As these soil have a perfect balance of soil particles, they are suitable for growing most plant varieties, and that’s why considered to be a gardener’s best friend.
