Gene is a basic physical and functional unit of heredity which is made up of DNA. Gene carries the genetic information which determines the traits. Gene is located on the chromosome. Chromosomes are in the form of a packed structure along with proteins which forms a DNA.

Genes are composed of either DNA or RNA whereas chromosomes are composed of DNA, histones, and RNA. Genes are not visible and chromosomes are visible under the microscope. A single chromosome comprises of many genes. A single gene is a locus on a chromosome.

Gene mutations are point mutations and frameshift mutations such as insertions and deletions.

Chromosomal mutations such as deletion, duplication, rearrangement, and inversion of genes results in chromosomal abnormalities.
