A stone resting on the ground has a gravitational force of 20 N acting on it. What is the weight of the stone? What is its mass? $(g=10 m/s^2)$.
As given, gravitational force $=20\ N$
Gravitational acceleration $g=10\ m/s^2$
As known, the weight of the stone resting on the ground is equal to the gravitational force it has.
Therefore, the weight of the stone $W=20\ N$
Let $m$ be the mass of the stone.
We know the relationship between the mass and weight of the object
$W=mg$
Or $20=m\times 10$
Or $m=\frac{20}{10}$
Or $m=2\ kg$
Therefore, the mass of the stone is $2\ kg$.
