Modern Microprocessors
In 8085 Instruction set,
In the year 2001, Intel introduced the Itanium processor is the first in a family of 64-bit products. It is capable to meet up most demanding enterprise and high-performance computing applications like e-Commerce security transactions, mechanical computer-aided engineering, large databases and sophisticated scientific and engineering computing.
Intel Centrino mobile technology is designed specifically for portable computing, with built-in wireless local area network (LAN) capability and breakthrough mobile performance. It enables extended battery life and thinner, lighter, mobile computers and it has mainly three components. They are
The Intel Pentium M processor, introduced from 2003
The Intel 855 chipset family and
The Intel PRO/Wireless 2100 network connection.
64 bit processors were designed mainly for gaming purposes, for using 3D design programs, architectural programs and all the other programs that require more processing horsepower than the 32 bit. As HD is becoming the new standard and every day-use programs. So it is becoming more involved and multimedia friendly, the 64-bit processor is becoming more commonplace. Now let us consider some examples and instances of 64-bit microprocessors which are available in the market.
Intel Xeon E5205
This 64-bit processor from Intel offers server class processing power with Intel's exclusive NetBurst Micro-Architecture. Designed as a dual core 1.86 GHz processor, this device allows multiple programs to be run or elaborate design and editing programs without skips or delays to be run.
Intel i7-975 Extreme Edition Bloomfield
Intel i7-975 Extreme Edition is a microprocessor capable for a high powered processor for running virtually all of the latest programs and systems, which are needed. This processing powerhouse is a 3.33 GHz quad core device with Intel Turbo Boos technology and Intel Hyper- Threading technology that are included to make multiple tasks fast and lag free. It is also having the feature of HD Boost technology, making editing video in HD a lag-free process in its i7-975 Extreme Edition.
AMD Athlon II 240 Regor
For a 64-bit processor without a high price tag, the Athlon II Regor is a good example. For low energy requirements, AMD Coolcore technology is designed and AMD claims this processor runs on up to 50 percent less energy than other 64-bit processors in its class. Additionally, to smooth out graphics and to aid in running multiple operating systems, Virtualization technology has been added. Intel Core 2 Duo T9400 Nowadays, in the market, for high powered 64-bit computing on a laptop, the Intel Core 2 Duo T9400 processor is available. This 2.53 GHz processor supports 64-bit computing with a 6-Mega Byte cache allowing the computer to run Windows 7 x 64 and a whole range of other complex and elaborate programs. T9400 processor is designed to be thinner and cooler than its desktop counterparts to reduce the heat and noise. And moreover, this processor includes Intel Speed Step technology, which changes the clock speed of the processor in order to meet the demands of the running programs.
